The evil one

Husband and I headed over the Chestnut Hill mall today to buy a knife I wanted from Stoddard's and possibly to pick up an adapter so I can listen to my ipod at my desk at work.
As we approached the packed parking lots and the hovering people waiting for someone to vacate a spot I commented to husband that it was obvious that the economic downturn hadn't yet come to Newton.
We followed rock star and the professor with long hair and jeans as they waltzed down the middle of an aisle oblivious to the grill of my truck adjacent to their baggy asses and then swept into their newly vacated space.
We headed in to Stoddard's which was empty save for the salesperson and commented that the mall seemed to be heaving.
It would appear that the antichrist of cooking, abuser of acronyms and promoter of all things complete in 30 minutes was upstairs doing a signing of her new book and the queue was over OVER two hours.
Can anyone tell me who would wait in line OVER TWO HOURS to have Rachel Ray sign a cookbook for them???
Please people...tell me why.
Sadly, my knife also was out of stock, but the apple genius boy found me a cheap way to connect my ipod to the machine at work...so that was a bonus.  As Genius bar boy and husband exchanged witty repartee at the close of our transaction husband asked whether a Ray gun would be required to kill her.  Drum roll and groans inserted here.

Currently making Miso Duck Ramen Soup and Tori Kara Age and listening to Joni...Pass the Manhattan.

I can promise you, I was NOT amongst them. I can't abide the woman. She drives me absolutely CRA-ZEE with her stupid acronyms and the shortening and cutifying of words. Plus the food... gag. Just total gag. NOTHING that woman cooks is drool worthy. Gimme Ming Tsai, Anthony Bordain, Lydia Bastianich, and Mario Batalli. TV cooks that have a freaking clue.

Here's what I have to say about Rachael Ray: I can't bear to watch her for all the obvious reasons. BUT the recipes of hers that I've tried have always worked out well. AND she is almost single-handedly helping an entire new generation of young (and not-so-young) people realize that they can cook healthy, interesting food even if they don't know their way around the kitchen. She uses fresh ingredients and gives hints on how to eyeball amounts, make substitutions, and improvise. You and I are most definitely not her target audience, but she is providing a valuable service to a lot of people who would otherwise go the route of Sandra Lee -- the real antichrist of cooking! "Semi-homemade" my ass! That one is truly an abomination. Rachael is annoyingly perky and goofy, but at least she shows how to prepare food from scratch.

But don't forget, she brought us the "garbage bowl"!

You know, there are times when I agree with you about the fact that she has brought cooking to a new goup of people who will have never cooked before. I just hope for future generations that some of those people take to studying above and beyond Miss Ray.
I like the garbage bowl idea, I like her explaining to people that if they just take a few minutes when they bring home things like vegetables or fresh herbs to wash and pre prep things it will make cooking easier during the week.
It's really just her style that grates at me the most.
Either call it EVOO or say extra virgin olive oil DON'T SAY BOTH EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Sammi's for sandwich, etc. Those things drive me mad, just like BAM drove me nuts, but I gave Emeril more slack since he really is a great cook.

And I completely agree Sandra Lee is Lucifer and evil incarnate rolled into one boob strutting package. She needs to GO.

Karan

I agree with you about all the stupid lingo....overly cute like licking a puppy. Yucko. :p

I don't think she's hit our shores yet. We have enough of our own problems with Sweary Gordon and his ilk mind... Bring back Delia, all is forgiven.
