Potpourri or The mixed bag
Okay kiddies this is the mixed bag that I have to discuss with you. All opinions will be solicited/welcomed.
Since I married a Brit my mornings in the summer are a pot of tea in the morning (Yorkshire Gold) followed by an iced coffee at the office. In the winter a pot of tea in the morning (still Yorkshire Gold) and an afternoon pot of what-have-you loose tea from our local tea shop. I just washed the cozy this weekend so it's nice and shiny. I told husband tonight that it was time to scrub the pots crooks and nannies. Husband asserts that a tea pot should be a bit scungy, brown, world weary. I disagree. Thoughts?
In my herb garden I have an overflow of Soapwort and Borage. Any suggestions?
Cucumber beetles have decimated my Cantalope (grown in a pot with fresh soil) my zucchini plant and my cucumbers (grown in the raised bed). I know you shouldn't grow cucurbit(Cucurbitaceae) family plants in the same place year after year, but my small raised veg bed leaves me little choice. I don't spray ever. Any thoughts on how to eradicate or avoid the bastards?
Tonight we had appraisal number three for the roof. He came at 6:30 and didn't leave until almost 8:00. Since we don't get home until close to 6:00 we had a late dinner/tea. We raided the freezer and husband had some frozen lame-o thing with mushy peas and I had one of those Bertolli frozen meals in a bag. As an Italian I cannot recommend these highly enough. You will not believe what will come out of your freezer and be cooked in 10 minutes. It WILL beat takeout/takeaway any day. My gripe? Why, oh why, do they put a coupon in a plastic sack inside the bag? Your chatting with your significant other, you cut open the bag, dump it in the preheated non-stick pan and then slam the lid on as directed. You open to stir and what do you see? A plastic package in your dinner! Luckily removed before it melted.
The big question tonight? Fiberglass shingles or organic (as organic as asphalt shingles can be) asphalt. Anyone done a roof and have recommendation? All opinions welcomed.
I am now off to watch part two of Messiah on BBC America. I do soooooooo love Ken Stott. Mmmmmmmm.
must admit the film is a bit like Seven in premise, but good none-the-less.

Agree with hubby - You shouldn't wash your teapot with detergent, just hot water. Nothing worse than soapy tea and the build up of tea on the pot improves the flavour. True!
I'm no good with gardens or roofs. But I'm your woman for garden parties and drinking wine on terraces...

So Mr Counting Sheep believes in seasoning the teapot? I'm not sure this is necessary for a good cup of tea, but it's an excellent rationale for not wearing your fingers to the bone trying to scrub the stains out. We find the dishwasher usually brings our pot up nice and sparkly, but it really doesn't get used very often. A well used pot may require sand blasting!

Sounds like a dirty teapot to me. I'm with you. Clean it. Why would the tea taste of soap if you cleaned the pot? My cups, plates, pots etc don't taste of soap when I clean them.

Borage and lavender can be used as laundry additives. Don't know what to do with soapwort.

I know when Borage is young you can add the leaves to drinks for a sort of cucumer taste, at least that is what I have heard. The leaves are noe very big and furry.
*wanders up to see how you add Borage to laundry*

Poison. Lots of poison. You can't taste it, and it isn't harmful to you unless you spray it right into your mouth.

A good teapot, a *really* good teapot, should be ceramic, pot bellied and stained - badly. It is the only way.

Beautifully said Razor! However, we drink gallons of the stuff all day long and I must confess that I can't leave them to get too grungy. I just pop a dishwasher tablet in, fill with hot water and soak it overnight. Good as new in the morning. I leave it under a running tap for a while to get rid of any taste of detergent. I've read that denture tablets (Steradent in the UK) also work well and I imagine tha they don't smell of much so that might be an option. I should imagine they'd also scrub up well in a dishwasher but we have the manual, two legged variety so I can't confirm that.
