Truck openers
Okay - Who's taking the bets on first rental truck stuck in the tunnel on memorial drive?
Hands up.
Scene set:
First time students to the Boston area in the rental truck that took all of their summer earnings and a few borrowed bucks from Mom and Dad to rent. They have their mapquest print out covered in shade grown coffee stains and orange dust from a bag of Doritos eaten while barelling down the Mass Pike.
Passenger is trying to stare down the shirt of the blond chick in the Toyota Echo next to them in traffic.
The first sign comes into view. Bridge clearance 6'8" (or whatever).
Passenger: 'Hey, how tall do you think this truck is?'
Driver: ' I don't know, 7 feet, 7 and a half. Why do you care?'
Passenger: 'That sign said bridge height 6 feet.....'
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, screech of metal, car brakes and thud from tailgating BMW.
Welcome back you parking space hording, bar stool thieving, sidewalk stealing, cell phone talking, belly baring, beer spewing students. We didn't miss you. No really. We didn't.

Oh Mr. M, we don't just live in a one college town, we live in a B.C., B.U. M.I.T, Harvard, Northeastern, Berkley college of Music, Emerson, U Mass, La Salle, Bentley, Leslie, Emmanuel, Fisher, Mass College of Art, Tufts, Simmons, Wheelock, Wentworth, Cambridge to name but a few in a 20 mile or so radius.
That's a boatload of kids leaving their homes for the first time and looking for a Party...along with an education.

This is one of the few things I like about living out in the burbs now. It takes a long time for all those students to find their way out to where I live. Some of them never do. BWA-HA-HA!

Its the same situation I am facing with these darned Penn [upenn.edu] kids. Worse is that they bring their parents along who are as obnoxious if not more. (found you via Does this blog make my butt look big?)

Over here in Manchester (Lancashire England, not New Hampshire- that is where our USA namesake is, right?) the students are still away and it is possible to get on the bus four miles into the town centre in 10 minutes. In a week or so's time it will start to be difficult to even get on the bus! But I suppose we should be thankful most students still use the bus and haven't graduated to cars....
But you know, we sort of miss the students really when they are away- Manchester (capital of the North and home to four- four! universities) can seem so deserted without their noisy ways...
Found you via London's Diamond Geezer by the way- like the blog very much!!

Pleased that you have found me and enjoyed it, stop by any time.

*embarrassed* I got stuck in a van in a multi-storey carpark once. I'd like to apologise to Norwich (Norfolk, England) for the fuss.

A rental truck hitting the bridge on Storrow drive is sort of like the sparrows returning to San Juan Capistrano.
Whats wrong with looking down the shirt of the woman in the car next to you? Is that wrong?
